Family House Refurbishment in Celorico de Basto: Modern Comfort in a Traditional SettingThis former family house originally featured a lower floor used as a cellar and animal shelter, while the upper floor housed three bedrooms, three living rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom—all within just 90m². Its size and layout no longer met modern standards of comfort and functionality. With the national road on one side and the valley on the other, the refurbishment prioritized privacy and acoustic comfort. Doors facing the street were converted into windows, reducing noise exposure. On the opposite façade, a new metal-structured balcony complements the new doors, one for each bedroom, providing a seamless connection to the surrounding landscape. The house's original shape was preserved, yet the interior spaces were completely reinterpreted to serve the needs of a perfect weekend retreat for family and friends. The entrance floor now accommodates the private areas, offering tranquility and relaxation. The lower floor has been transformed into an open-plan space housing the living room, dining area, and kitchen. This open layout creates a sense of spaciousness that the previously compartmentalized design lacked. The perception of space is further enhanced by the larger openings, connecting the interior with the stunning views of the valley. |
